Your questions, answered

What is the minimum care package available?

Our packages start at a minimum of five hours of care a week, ranging from 30-minute calls up to multiple hours a day. This allows us to schedule your desired call times within a local round ensuring continuity of care.

How soon could your start my care package?

We understand that looking for care normally follows an emergency, so we will do everything in our power to ensure we start your care package as soon as possible. Following an assessment of your needs, we will work with you to create a bespoke care plan, ensuring that your carer and schedule is suited to your needs.

We don’t know how much care my loved one needs, can you help?

Based upon our free assessment, and working with families and the input of multi-disciplinary teams if needed, we can advise on a package of care and explain in detail how it would work around family life. We are confident we can tailor a package that meets your loved one’s needs, enabling them to have their practical care needs met, whilst also enhancing their wellbeing with friendly companionship.

What funding options are available?

You can apply for government-funded allowances (for example, Attendance Allowance and Personal Independence Payments) that can go towards the cost of care. And depending on a means test assessment provided by your local council, you could also be eligible to receive additional financial support. In England, councils will generally help to pay for care costs if you have savings of less than £23,250. To explore this option, you would need to contact your local council. For Gloucestershire, call 01452 426868 and for Hereford, call 01432 260101.

I/my loved one has a personal budget/direct payments; can I use this for care from Flexicare?

If you have been awarded a personal budget, you have full autonomy over your care decisions. You can choose the length of your calls and your care provider to suit your lifestyle. All monies used from the direct payments account is monitored by your local council regularly to ensure transparency of expenditure.

Will I have the same carer?

The care package you require will determine whether you have just one carer or a team of people. The majority of carers employed by Flexicare have fixed schedules, which means we can tailor their round to ensure continuity for those receiving care. To allow for sickness and/or annual leave, we normally use a ‘team’ of familiar faces to carry out your care provision. All carers receive the same training and communicate with each other to ensure your care provision is seamless and consistent.

What training do the carers have?

All our carers receive the same training to ensure ‘The Flexicare Way’. We are committed to a high quality of training, delivered by our PTTLS trained ‘experts by experience’. The founder of Flexicare begins the introduction by ensuring the values and ethos of the company is clear to all the new additions to the Flexicare family. Face-to-face training in Moving and Enabling, Medication, Dementia Awareness, First Aid, Washing and Catheter care, and Palliative care is delivered by our in-house trainers, ensuring a consistently high quality of training. All carers complete the Care Certificate in full, through lifetime training to ensure a comprehensive and detailed understanding of the role of a carer. And our market-leading, regular, easily accessible and targeted online training keeps all skills up to date.
