Going above and beyond
Founded in 1997 by Jeanette Phillips, a former nurse with a passion for delivering compassionate support, Flexicare began as a family venture and has grown to become one of the county’s most respected care providers.
In 2015, we were proud to receive our first “Outstanding” rating from the Care Quality Commission, recognising the dedication of our team to going above and beyond for our clients. By 2022, we had expanded to two branches, both rated Outstanding by the CQC, and celebrated 25 years of caring for our community.
Our story
1981

A career begins
Jeanette Phillips qualified as a State Registered Nurse, specialising in elderly care, working in the NHS for five years before continuing her role as a RGN in the community for a decade before founding Flexicare Home Services.
1997

Flexicare is founded
Flexicare started from humble beginnings in a partitioned bedroom in our family home. Jeanette teamed up with Morgan Phillips (Archie), to create a company with compassion at the core, focusing on what is possible, empowering people to live independently with support from dedicated care assistants. There were many challenges along the way but together with support from our family, Flexicare grew organically throughout Gloucester.
1998

First office space
Flexicare moved to The Steadings Business Centre as the company began to grow, taking our first steps toward becoming a trusted local care provider.
2002

Overcoming tragedy
In July 2002, Jeanette lost her only son in a motorcycle accident. Following a period of reflection, Anna made the decision to move back to Gloucester to support the family, as well as joining Flexicare – bringing stability to the business, having come from a financial background. Aged 16, Jeanette’s youngest daughter Jenna also started as a carer in the family business. In 2009, Jenna moved into the coordination team as the business continued to grow.
2015
First outstanding CQC rating
Flexicare’s first official Palliative team was established by Sue Matthews in 2015 and recognised by a CQC inspection, when Flexicare was awarded “OUTSTANDING” in “caring”.
Flexicare continued to develop to ensure that the care delivered was exceptional. All three owners along with Gloucester’s long standing Registered Manager, Sarah Zielinski, decided to bring all the training in-house. With PTTLS qualifications alongside nearly 100 years of experience and expertise in the industry, all our training was delivered by management by 2016.
On 20th July 2016, after battling Parkinson’s disease for 6 years, Archie (our co-Founder) unexpectedly passed away.
2017

Expansion to Stroud
In our 20th year of business, we decided to use our awarded status from the CQC as a springboard to expand into the neighbouring district of Stroud. With the help of word of mouth from clients as well as professionals within the industry, we were met with an influx of clients who were in need of “Outstanding” care. With different terrains providing more of a challenge when it came to extreme weather, we teamed up with a local private service that supplies 4X4 help in times of need!
2019

Growing recognition
Flexicare became one of Gloucestershire’s 65 largest employers, as featured in Punchline magazine. We also launched a minibus for client outings and welcomed our first therapy dog, Tink.
2020-2022

Thriving through challenges
After many years of different challenges, the Stroud branch truly flourished, offering a genuinely high level of care to all clients, by an extraordinary team of Flexicare carers.
Flexicare Stroud Ltd branch and Flexicare UK Ltd secured Outstanding by the CQC, putting us in the top 3% in England.
By the time 25 Years of Business greeted us on the 14th of April 2022, we had passed the hardest two years in business due to the COVID-19 pandemic and established ourselves as one of the best domiciliary care companies within Gloucestershire, as recognised by the CQC.
2023

Newent & Ledbury Hub opens
In 2023, we opened Flexicare Newent and Ledbury Ltd, building on our strong values and dedication to delivering outstanding community care within our local area.
As a family business, we know how rare it is to find a team as committed and compassionate as ours. We feel incredibly fortunate to work alongside people who share our vision and treat every individual with the same care and kindness they would give their own loved one.
“We will continue to ensure our core values remain at the heart of our family business”.
