2021 Important PPE Policy Re; New Variant of COVID-19 (VUI Variant under Investigation 2020/12/01)

The recent mutation of the COVID-19 virus identified by the COVID-19 Genomics UK (COG-UK) consortium has proved to be up to 70% more transmissible.

Flexicare UK Ltd has a Duty of Care to our clients and the CQC (Care Quality Commission) to provide Safe effective and responsive care.

Our Policy for 2021 is as follows and MUST be followed at all times with ALL clients. Failure to adhere to the below policy will result in disciplinary action.

Please be AWARE at all times the PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) is only AS PROTECTIVE as the skill of the PA donning and doffing (applying and removing PPE).

Please be aware that the following PPE is available from the Board Room at Flexicare UK Ltd. Unit 14, The Steadings Business Centre. Maisemore Court. Maisemore. Gloucestershire. GL2 4RP and it is INDIVIDUAL PA RESPONSIBILITY to anticipate and collect the PPE you require.

(We very fortunate to be supplied with an infinite amount of PPE from the government to keep us all safe !!!).

List of PPE available.

· Disposable Protective Gowns.

· Disposable plastic aprons.

· Disposable Latex and Vinyl Gloves.

· Plastic Visors.

· N95/ Respirator Masks.

· Shoe Covers.

· Hand Gel and Hand Soap.

· Goggles.

The above PPE will ONLY be as good as the operator (with this new variant which is up to 70% more transmissible and can gain easier access to the human cells).

Therefore all PAs should perform thorough HAND HYGIENE prior to donning Personal Protective Equipment; REMOVE ALL PPE slowly and carefully and perform thorough HAND HYGIENE (including between fingers, back of hands and wrists) once PPE a is removed.

· PLEASE BE AWARE THAT 52.9% OF TRANSMISSIONS OCCUR WHEN GLOVES ARE REMOVED PLEASE REMOVE SLOWLY AND CAREFULLY AS PER TRAINING AND PERFORM THOROUGH HAND HYGIENE.
